Notice: This review will NOT be including a content warning as I did not finish the book. My reasons for not finishing will be listed below, and if you have questions you are always welcome to email me. 

As y'all probably know by now, I am not really into really edgy romances. A love story in a book is fine, especially when there is lots of history or other useful information to be learned in the story. I prefer the main genre to be something other than romance, such as historical or suspense.

 I've read one of Gist's books before and found it to leave a very bad taste on my mouth. I've discussed it with many people, including some online friends though Goodreads, and one of them agreed with me about Gist's books but informed me that one of hers was actually very good. I haven't had the chance to read the one she suggested, but when my friend Savanah mentioned that she was getting this book when the opportunity came up, and she agreed with me on the last Gist book, I agreed to review it, eager to read it along with Savanah and discuss it together. Suffice to say, I was left disappointed. 

Deeanne introduces us to her characters, one an abnormal girl who's viewed as just a bit off her rocker, and a pride-stuffed, jerk of a hero. Now I'm sure Luke, the hero, is supposed to change into a nicer guy as the story continues, but frankly I didn't feel like getting far enough to find out.

The story line was fair enough but I did find the main character, Georgie, to be a bit strange and almost annoying sometimes. Her view on the life of birds was an interesting one, and one I somewhat disagree with. She fought to make it so birds wouldn't be killed for no reason, but didn't seem to realize that eating them was a reason. I can understand with not killing them simply to make "attractive" apparel, but some of her beliefs were stretched a bit far. 

The book was fair enough, though not in my opinion gripping, until I came to the first "sweet" scene.

Once again, the characters both put themselves in imprudent situations and are not wise in their actions. Deeanne makes the simple action of the girl removing a splinter from the hero's arm a romantic moment. It is told from Luke's perspective, who knows it's a bad idea yet doesn't leave and allows her to do it. Her fingers on his arm, and the way she holds his arm to keep it still while she removes it cause his hand to bump into her chest and...well, you get the picture. 

I was very disappointed.

I put this book down, sadly, and do not plan to ever pick up another Gist again. I found it to be too romancy for my tastes and there was practically nothing else going on. Sure, there was a murder investigation, but really it was drowned by the romance. 

I'm sure others would find this book enjoyable, but for me it just didn't make the cut.
