Waterfall Wednesday

Hey readers! Today I will be participating in something I've been looking forward to for a few weeks now -- Waterfall Wednesday! Lisa T. Bergren is my all time favorite author, even overriding the famous Ted Dekker and stealing the #1 Author spot on my shelf. Waterfall is the first book in her River of Time Series, which is absolutely AMAZING, and so I am totally excited to join my fellow bloggers and participate in this.

ALSO:
I have the winners of my two giveaways and will be announcing them tomorrow or Friday! SO sorry for the delay! :)

Waterfall Wednesdays-A Read-a-Along Event

Waterfall by Lisa T. Bergren
Discussion 1- Chapters 1-6
Today's questions hosted by Tinasbookreviews.blogspot.com

Discussion Questions:

Waterfall opens with the introduction of Gabi, shes depressed, a little angry and is dealing with feelings of loneliness. Are you connecting with her this soon in the novel? Do you see things you like or dislike?

I connected with Gabi right away, and while Lia is definitely my character, I really enjoyed learning about Gabi and definitely felt for her. I liked how Bergren immediately showed that Gabi has flaws of her own, while a lot of authors make their characters out to be these perfect angels. Maybe that works for some readers, but as for me, I want a realistic character. Gabi was a realistic character for me.

Gabi gets to time travel back to 14th Century Italy- The Dark Ages in its prime. Is there anytime in history that fascinates you and would you travel back if you could?

After reading this novel? There's no where else I'd rather go except 14th Century Italy! Maybe I could go back and steal Luca's from Lia...B)
Medieval has always intrigued me, so I would definitely go back to that time era. Bergren made 14th Century Italy come alive in such a way that I would choose to visit there over any other place given the chance.

Most of the men, including Marcello have a very set opinion about a woman's place. Gabi gets manhandled a bit in these first few chapters, and even gets asked if shes a witch. The men are shocked when Gabi rides a horse like a man and shimmies down the castle walls. What do you think of mens mentality back then? Gentlemanly, chauvinistic, simple-minded?

Golly, I think they were quite gentlemanly. I think that men's mentality back then was that women were the weaker vessel and should be treated as such, which I can't fault them for, as we are, and I even found it cute. I believe that in today's society women try to be men too hard. They are in the military, having full time jobs when their families need them at home, etc. Now, I'm not saying that these are always the wrong paths for a woman to take, as God can lead her in a direction she would never have imagined(just look at Deborah). But maybe, just maybe, culture was closer to what God intended during those times than we are now.

I do think that second-guessing a woman's intelligence is wrong, though, and often that's what got women in the scrapes they were in in ancient times: men thought they were all around better.
As for them being shocked at Gabi's mannerisms, I think that it just had to do with culture. It was something a woman never did, but it wasn't because they were any less of a talented human as a man; it's just women didn't do stuff like that.

When Gabi becomes a part of this era, the people are immediately intrigued but suspicious of her. Many judge her by her difference. Do you think this is fair? Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like an outsider or that others were misjudging you?

I just gotta say that if a man came into my life all of the sudden and was like Marcello or Luca, I would definitely be a little freaked out. ;) Judging, on the other hand, just because another person is different than you is wrong. I have on more than one occasion known I was being judged wrong, and it definitely doesn't feel good.

What do think the coolest thing would be about living in the Dark Ages? What would be the worst?

Umm well if Luca really lived...:P
Hahahaha just kidding. I think that I, personally, would really like the culture and the setting. As I read about Gabi and Marcello or Luca and Lia dashing through the trees and over rocks and down hills, I fell in love with the scenery. I mean, who couldn't? It sounds beautiful!

The worst? Two words.
No. Toothbrush.
I'm sorry, but if I had to live my whole life without brushing my teeth...EWW. That just sounds disgusting. I have a sudden urge to go brush my teeth now. I'd better wrap this up. :P

So there you have it! I must say that these are the best books EVER and if you haven't read them you have to get a hold of them. They are SOOO amazing! I will force myself to stop raving about them now and publish this post. If you've read this book, please leave a comment and let me know what you thought! If you haven't, I'm not sure what you are waiting for. Dive in!! The water is SUPERB!

Thanks for commenting! I read your post and left a comment. So glad you've taken the chance to read this book -- it's AWESOME! :)

Lia is my very favorite...probably because she IS me. I'm pretty sure Bergren knows me somehow and based her character off of me. :P

Get that boy a shower (and a toothbrush & toothpaste!), however, and it's a total game-changer on the freak out, huh?

It's nice to see an honest-to-goodness teen's view on these books! My daughter & niece loved them, but even at my exalted age I am over the moon for the River of Time.

Tina: I know! It would be horrid! I hate that feeling in the morning where you know you haven't brushed your teeth in 12 hours and TOTALLY need to...BLAH! Haha stinky armpits I can handle(I have to, after all, with six brothers) but, like you said, stay away from me if your breath stinks! :P

Mrs. Laura: I imagine it to be so luxuriously beautiful...wow I'm breathless just thinking about it!

Ha! Deodorant is a good one! ;)

Serena:

Wow, you have a really pretty name! :)
Hahaha your comment made me chuckle! But yes; they'd definitely be freshening up...ASAP. :P

Yes that's what I love about them -- everybody loves them! I have not heard one person complain about these books, aside from the content being too much for them at their age which isn't even a fault of the authors; they just weren't ready. :)

Thanks y'all for dropping a note!! Great to hear from my readers. :D

I am SO glad you are taking part in this, K. I didn't really respect the Power of the Toothbrush until we were touring Mayan ruins in Mexico, and our guide told us that he was still using coal and some sort of mint root as a child to brush. (And he was about 30!) Fascinating to think about, huh? See you for next week's WW!
