The American Patriot's Almanac

"The American Patriot's Almanac" distills the American drama into 365 entries--one for each day of the year. Fascinating in its detail and singular in its grasp of the big themes, the text will make anyone a fan of history, and even better, it will make everyone a patriot.

The Review:

My Ranking: 9 out of 10
Ages 14 & up

The American Patriot Almanac is a very informative book – teaching us about the history of our nation one day at a time for a year. I think it’s really cool how it does it by day and tells you what happened in history that day. For example: on January first, you read what happened in history on January 1st(Lincoln signs the Emancipation Proclamation).
This is the newer version, and is revised, updated, and expanded. It is very easy to follow and the daily readings are just the right length. At the bottom of each page there is a shorter list of other things that happened on the date in history. At the beginning of the book there is a short blurb(only 6 pages long) about what it means to be a patriot and how it helped our country become what it is today and a list of 12 reasons to love our country. At the back of the book, there is a list of the American state flags and info on each state(It’s nickname, capital, name origin, population, area, etc). It’s even got a list of each state’s symbols!

This book is perfect to read to your children or even to yourself through the year. Teach yourself and/or your children the meaning of being an American Patriot and what many brave men and women did to make our country the great nation it is today,
