Welcome!

Hey everybody! Welcome to Jane's Reviews & Giveaways! The purpose of this blog is to be able to post my reviews on any products I choose, including books, which will be the main thing I review, movies, and other miscellaneous products. Also, I hope to post the occasional giveaway also! I hope you enjoy my humble reviews and that they are helpful! Now to start off this blog I'd like to have a giveaway! In this first one I will be giving away the book "Daughter of the Loom" by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller. This book is brand new other than the fact that I read it, but no bent pages or signs of wear. The paperback cover is in perfect condition.
Here is some info about the book.

The mill town of Lowell, Massachusetts, comes to life with intrigue and drama from the creative writing team of Judith Miller and Tracie Peterson. Young women at the end of the 19th century seek employment from driven men intent on transforming America's textile industry. Daughters of the Loom features Lilly Armbruster, who is forced to work in the mills as her only means for survival. But Lilly's resentment runs deep against the "lords of the loom"—the men she believes have stolen her father's farm and caused his premature death. Her animosity happens to include Matthew Cheever, her childhood friend and one-time betrothed. Though separated by their opposing views about the future of the mill and the community that surrounds it, the emotions of their hearts still bind them. Will their dreams for the future allow their fragile love to survive?

My opinion:
This book was a joy to read to put it simply. There are very few Christian books, that I know of, in this time line, around the Industrial Revolution, that express the hardships in the mills and what the people went through who lived around them. This book was easy to read, the language of the story was easy to comprehend. I did not find myself going back to previous chapters to refresh my memory on what was going on. It was clean, though there is a mild romance throughout the book, but it is not the sole story. There also was a man who trifles and flirts with girls other than his wife at the mill, and is rumored to beat his wife which is proven true. (sorry if that's a spoiler; but its a piece of information needed if this book is being given to a young reader )
I enjoyed learning about the times and trials that people went through in the early 19th century, and I feel I know more about it and it was a pleasure to learn about the subject in this very intriguing story.
